Vivek High School: Vivek High School to Challenge UT Education Department’s Order in Court | Chandigarh News

Riko Dwianto, 15/10/2025
Chandigarh: As of January 9 deadline for registration on the EWS admissions portal approaches, Vivek High SchoolSector 38 — only one of the 53 non-minority schools left to register — is planning to move the high court in the coming week, against the UT education department‘s order on December 27 to derecognise the school over not admitting 28 EWS students under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act.
Vivek High School chairman HS Mamik said, “Within the next three to four days, before January 9 or 10, we will file a petition in the Punjab and Haryana high court, challenging the derecognition order. Our primary appeals involve seeking full reimbursement, ensuring the guaranteed 25% under RTE, and requesting the education department to permit entry-level classes. However, our Montessori system allows children to start classes at 18 months or 2 years, making it challenging to follow the department’s suggestion to admit students from Class 1 onwards, as, for that, we would have to keep our lower class seats vacant for two years. We will abide by the court’s decision.”
In the previous year, except St Kabir and Vivek High School, 51 of 53 non-minority

Alabama bans DEI programs and ‘divisive concepts’ in public colleges | Education News

Riko Dwianto, 14/10/2025

The bill, known as SB129, bans publicly-funded institutions from maintaining DEI offices or teaching what the bill calls ‘divisive concepts’ about race and identity.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has signed a bill banning diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs in publicly-funded colleges, making the southern state one of the newest Republican-led states to enact broad measures against what they claim is a leftward tilt in the US education.

The bill, known as SB129, bans institutions from maintaining DEI offices or teaching what the bill calls “divisive concepts” about race and identity, including discussions of whether “slavery and racism are aligned with the founding principles of the United States”. It authorizes state agencies to “discipline or terminate employees or contractors who violate” the law.

It also requires them to designate toilets as only for men or women, a move against transgender rights advocates’ push for gender-neutral toilets.

“My administration has and will continue to value Alabama’s rich diversity, however, I refuse to allow a few bad actors … go under the acronym of DEI, using unpaid funds, to push their liberal political movement,” Ivey said in a statement.

The law is due to take effect in October.

Menahga School District grapples with online education – Park Rapids Enterprise

Riko Dwianto, 12/10/2025

Students are leaving brick-and-mortar schools for online learning.

The Menahga School District is considering combating this trend by providing its own online educational program.

Elevate Online is a Minnesota Department of Education-approved online provider through Southwest Metro Intermediate District 228.

Eric Schneider, executive director of Elevate Online, presented a partnership agreement at the Monday, March 18 school board meeting.

All school districts are wrestling with this as parents become more aware of online educational opportunities, he said.

If approved, program options would be available to Menagha families (both K-12 live-virtual as well as 9-12 self-guided), including special education and English Language services.

The Menahga School District has the option to waive the 50% maximum for “supplemental learning, thus allowing students to remain fully enrolled for graduation status and/or athletics/activities. Students continue to earn Menahga credits, and if a student openly enrolls into Menahga, the student would be able to participate in Menahga athletics and activities.”

Schneider explained students would technically be considered “supplementally enrolled” at Elevate Online.

“So they’re coming to us for part of their schedule,” he said. “We really do behave as an extension of your school.”

Superintendent Jay Kjos recommended approving the partnership.

“Kids are still leaving

All Illinois school districts to offer full-day kindergarten by 2027-28

All Illinois school districts to offer full-day kindergarten by 2027-28

00:25

CHICAGO (CBS) – Every school district in Illinois will be required to establish a full-day kindergarten program by the 2027-2028 school year after Gov. JB Pritzker signed a bill into law on Wednesday.

Under the bill, every district must also establish a half-day program.

According to the National Education Association, children in full-day classes show greater achievements in reading and mathematics than those in half-day classes. Full-day kindergarten also offers several social and emotional benefits to students.

Districts that do not offer a full-day program can apply for a waiver to extend the implementation date up to two years past the 2027-2028 school year if they meet certain criteria.

“Full day kindergarten is an essential step toward getting young Illinoisans off to the best possible start in their education, which has long-lasting positive effects on reading, math, and social skills,” said Pritzker in a statement. “From Smart Start to school funding to early childhood, we’re investing heavily in our state’s youngest residents because we know that every investment we make now is paid back multiple times over by engaged

Four ways to give healthy living advice to college students

Riko Dwianto, 10/10/2025

Self-guided health and wellness resources can benefit college students.

RealPeopleGroup/E+/Getty Images

In a spring 2023 Student Voice survey from Inside Higher Ed and College Pulse, 49 percent of students rated their mental health as fair or poor. Over half (56 percent) of students reported having experienced chronic stress while in college, and three-quarters (74 percent) said stress was negatively impacting their ability to focus, learn and do well in school.

Despite college students having an overwhelming need for health support, not every student is able to find or be interested in scheduling an appointment with a counselor.

Data from telehealth provider TimelyCare found half of college students using the platform don’t engage with a provider; instead they engage with self-care resources or peer community resources. Of the million sessions on the platform in the past year, over 400,000 interactions have been with self-care content, says Bob Booth, TimelyCare’s chief care officer.

Education Dept, teachers’ union haggle over ‘vulnerable’ definition

Riko Dwianto, 09/10/2025

Australian Education Union SA president Andrew Gohl told parliament’s COVID-19 Response Committee that he was currently “haggling with bureaucrats” in the Education Department to finalize the definition of a “vulnerable” worker ahead of the start of Term 1 on Wednesday.

He said the department was also yet to finalize whether teachers who were deemed vulnerable would be entitled to additional leave or changed working arrangements.

Gohl described the situation as “infuriating”, saying the Education Department wanted to come up with its own definition of what constitutes a vulnerable worker despite SA Health and the federal government already providing guidelines.

“Notwithstanding the fact that the federal health website is really clear about what vulnerable workers are, that the SA Health website is really clear about what vulnerable workers are, we are at the moment haggling with bureaucrats to come up with a definition of what is vulnerable worker is,” he told the committee this morning.

“It’s infuriating to have to deal with such different levels of advice… around just simply trying to make people have a safe working environment.

“That’s all this is – it’s about making workplaces safe for children and those who educate them.”

Looking at effective methods of Dental Health Education for children

Riko Dwianto, 08/10/2025

The behavior of maintaining oral hygiene in children in Indonesia is still low. It can be seen from the results of Basic Health Research conducted in 2013, where there were 28.9% of children aged 5-9 years experiencing dental health problems. This high number of dental problems is influenced by behavior, knowledge, and habits in maintaining oral health. Moreover, at childhood, health education is not easy to understand. One way to increase knowledge and awareness about the importance of maintaining oral health is through Dental Health Education (DHE) or oral health counseling. DHE aims to improve knowledge, and change one’s behavior, both individually and in groups, which leads to a healthy lifestyle. At childhood, a lot of information received comes from interactions with people around them. For example parents, teachers, and peers. Children spend more time playing and learning new things with friends, and because of that intense exchange, information can be absorbed well.

Dr. Ninuk Hariyani, drg., M. Kes., MPH., PhD from the Department of Public Dental Health, Faculty of Dental Medicine UNAIR, in the team conducted a study on the effectiveness of a peer-group method to provide dental and oral health education for children. As the name suggests, this
