Akron North High students, staff fight for building to be replaced

North High School sophomore Dev Bhujel spoke to the Akron Public Schools board Monday night about replacing North High School.

Floor boards that are warped from water damage. Classrooms that are either 55 degrees or 85 degrees. Ceilings that leak, and in some cases, partially collapse into classrooms around students trying to learn.

The conditions at North High School were abysmal, students and staff told the school board Monday, begging the board not to delay the replacement of their building or hinge the project on the passage of a levy.

“Somehow, North went from being a certainty to a possibility, and other groups’ want to take precedence over our basic needs,” Janice Weaver, an academy principal at North, said during public comment. “Once again, North’s 1,000 combined students and staff are being left behind, and we risk continuing to miss out on the equity that the rest of the district receives.”

North is the latest neighborhood or school community to pack a board meeting in recent weeks to advocate for its place in the district’s long-term facilities plan that is still awaiting a board vote.

WB Education Policy 2023: The West Bengal Higher Education Department has revamped its education system starting from pre-primary to higher education level in the State of West Bengal. The new State Education Policy (SEP) is aimed at ensuring a higher standard of education for all students, with a particular focus on marginalized, disadvantaged, and under-represented groups.
The State Government constituted an expert committee consisting of eminent educationists on April 07, 2022. The Committee submitted its recommendation to the State Government after due deliberation with stakeholders.

Education Structure: At present, the structure of school education in West Bengal follows a 5+4+2+2 pattern. It includes one year of pre-primary and four years of primary until grade 4, The students move through four years of upper primary, two years of secondary, and two years of higher secondary. The only change suggested in the structure is the inclusion of the first two years of early years’ education at an Anganwadi centre.

Gyandeep Model High School: Sector 20 school derecognised for anomalies in admission process

CHANDIGARH: For the first time after many years the UT education department has derecognised a private school due to its anomalies in the admission process. On the proposal of district education officer, director of school education has approved the withdrawal of recognition of classes XI and XII of Gyandeep Model High School in Sector 20, Chandigarh. The school had landed in trouble in March 2017 when Class XII students of the school did not get their roll numbers for appearing in board exams.

The education department had formed a committee and conducted an inquiry. In the letter district education officer (DEO) had referred to the same committee’s report and had stated that “there is total mismanagement of the record and lots of anomalies are visible in the admission process.” It was also stated that the school authorities had not informed the parents of the students regarding the norms for board classes. It was further stated that, “There is malpractice found in general administration of the school.” The report was submitted by the committee in 2017. It was proposed to review the recognition of the school with effect from March 31, 2018 and also to review the affiliation of CBSE.
