Foundation holds fundraiser for Cupertino, Sunnyvale schools

Spring for Education

The Fremont Union High Schools Foundation, an all-volunteer organization that raises money for programs ranging from STEM to theater arts, will hold its annual “Spring for Education” fundraiser on Friday, April 5, at the Quinlan Community Center in Cupertino.

The doors open at 5 pm with student performances, demonstrations and displays, followed by a dinner and auction. Tickets are $95 at https://fuhsfoundation.org/sp4ed2024.

The foundation’s fundraising supports students in the district’s five high schools in the areas of academic enrichment programs, including STEM classes, visual and performing arts, robotics, journalism and athletics; student support services, including a parent resource network, mental health services and online resources; and college and career readiness, including college application assistance, resume writing and job fairs.

Homing in

In an effort to address informal comments from the state Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD), the city of Cupertino has revised the February version of its 2023-31 draft Housing Element. Cupertino submitted a third draft of the document to address comments received on the revised second draft from the HCD in December 2023.

The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) has announced it will continue job action next week, as the government continues to tout “record” spending in its 2024/2025 provincial budget.

Teachers across the province will withdraw from extracurricular participation for all of next week, while some divisions will see teachers withdraw noon-hour supervision on Monday.

Saskatchewan teachers have been without a contract since August and bargaining on a new contract remains at a standstill.

Both sides of the labor dispute refuse to budget on the issues of class size and complexity.
